Lee Carsley confirms Trent's England role after squad announcement

After the announcement of the 26-man England national team, under the leadership of caretaker manager Lee Carsley, prepare to fight in the UEFA Nations League 2 matches. Which will meet Ireland on September 7 and Finland on September 10.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold taking on a different role to Gareth Southgate’s time in charge, Harry Maguire and Jack Grealish have also returned to the https://ufabet999.app list.

Lee Carsley insists Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold will play at right-back in a style that is distinctly different to Gareth Southgate.

During Euro 2024, Southgate deployed Alexander-Arnold as a central midfielder. The experiment lasted only two games before Southgate decided to field Kobbie Menu alongside Declan Rice.

The 25-year-old is one of three right-backs named in Carsley’s squad, along with Manchester City’s Rico Lewis and Newcastle’s Tino Livramento, making him the senior player in the squad.

Manchester City captain Kyle Walker was left out of the squad, while Kieran Trippier announced his international retirement on Thursday morning.

Carsley has been clear about where he sees Alexander-Arnold playing during his time in charge, although he admits the Liverpool star is capable of playing further forward, with right-back likely to be his position for the Three Lions.

“For me, and especially in this camp, he’s a right-back, playing in defence. The modern full-backs, they have all the attributes that make them almost a midfielder.”

“Very comfortable on the ball, has a great range of passing, and the same goes for Rico and Kyle Walker-Peters, who I watched at Southampton the other day. They are very smooth on the ball and forward. I think we will see Trent in those positions, but I see him more as a right-back.”
